Effective January 1, 2025, the County of San Mateo's minimum wage increases to $17.46/hour. This requires an updated posting on that date which only applies to the unincorporated areas of the county. The Minimum Wage Ordinance (MWO) does not apply in the City of San Mateo or any other incorporated city in the county.
Note: Employers who fail to comply with City of San Mateo or County of San Mateo posting requirements and local employment laws may be subject to administrative citations, penalties and civil actions.
CITY OF SAN MATEO
Covered Employers/Employees
All employers, regardless of where they are located, with employees who perform at least two hours of work within the geographical boundaries of the City of San Mateo.
Required Notices
CalChamber’s 16” x 22” San Mateo Minimum Wage poster (English/Spanish combined) contains the official notices with the current minimum wage and minimum wage information as required by the City of San Mateo Minimum Wage Ordinance (MWO).
Every employer must post the City of San Mateo's minimum wage notice prominently in areas of the work site where it will be seen by all employees.
Posting Specifics
Employers must post the notification in English and other languages as provided in any implementing regulations.

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO
Covered Employers/Employees
The County of San Mateo Minimum Wage Ordinance (MWO) applies to businesses geographically located in the unincorporated areas of the county. The San Mateo County MWO covers all employees who work two hours or more in a particular week within the unincorporated areas of the county. This MWO does not apply in the City of San Mateo or any other incorporated city in the county.

Posting Specifics
Every covered employer must post the notice prominently in areas at the work site where it will be seen by all employees.
