CalChamber's virtual Leaves of Absence seminar has been updated and revamped for 2025!
California, unlike most states, has many state-specific laws that give employees the right to take protected leaves of absence for a variety of reasons. Understanding, administering and managing the scope of leaves that are available to your employees can be difficult — whether you are a small business or a large company with a dedicated HR team. This difficulty is heightened by the fact that the laws governing leaves are frequently updated, requiring a constant effort to stay on top of the latest changes.
How do you determine which leave laws apply to your employees, when employees are eligible for leave and which notices to provide? How do you make sense of different legal requirements that apply to each type of leave, how the leaves interact and how employees are paid during leaves? This seminar answers those questions and more as it covers the key leave laws that may apply to your California employees.
Our employment law experts will explain the legal requirements of the different leaves, engage with you through interactive scenarios, provide best practices to implement in your workplace and answer your real-time questions throughout the training.
NEW FOR 2025: We've added more examples and scenarios that apply key legal concepts to real-world fact patterns — all to provide you with even more practical guidance to help manage leaves of absence for your California employees and ensure compliance.
Topics covered include:
- California mandatory paid sick leave.
- Vacation and Paid Time Off (PTO) policies.
- Pregnancy disability leave (PDL).
- Family and medical leave under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the California Family Rights Act (CFRA).
- California-specific leaves such as bereavement leave, reproductive loss leave, victim’s leave and more.
- Federal and California military leaves.
- Leave as a reasonable accommodation.
