What is SB553?
Effective July 1, 2024, California’s general industry workplace violence standards require that nearly all California non-health care employers take proactive steps to prevent and mitigate violence in the workplace. These steps include following complex rules for creating, implementing, and maintaining a written Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP), training employees and following post-incident procedures. Employers must also annually review their workplace violence prevention plan and complete annual employee training.
Noncompliance could lead to penalties or citations by Cal/OSHA.
Common Q&As
Q: Do I need to purchase the Workplace Violence Prevention Toolkit?
Yes. WVP Support is directly tailored to the Workplace Violence Prevention Toolkit. If you haven’t yet purchased the toolkit, you can purchase it here.
Q: Can I use WVP Support if I already created my workplace violence prevention plan last year?
Yes! Even if you’ve already created your workplace violence prevention plan using our toolkit, you can still book a WVP Support session to refine your plan, review any updates and get expert guidance. PLEASE NOTE: our experts cannot provide support on workplace violence prevention plans created without the use of our toolkit.
Q: Can I use WVP Support for multiple worksites?
WVP Support is designed for a single worksite. If you think you will need support for additional locations, please contact us to discuss your options.
Q: How do I schedule my WVP Support session?
Once you submit an online request, our team will reach out and schedule a preliminary call to discuss our service in more detail and ensure it’s a good fit for your needs. Once you decide to move forward, our team will coordinate a date and time for your session. Availability is confirmed before purchase, but payment must be completed to reserve your spot.
Q: How long does the WVP Support process take?
The timeline can vary depending on your business needs, but generally, you’ll want to allow up to one hour for your first session and up to two hours for the second. In between each session, you’ll have about two to three weeks to complete the Workplace Violence Prevention Checklist and other action items.
Q: What technology is required?
Sessions take place via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, where you’ll share your screen to navigate the Workplace Violence Prevention Toolkit with your employment law expert. We highly recommend using a desktop or laptop for the best experience.
